Lookup.Life is a free application for iOS, Android and Windows phones that uses a device's GPS location and inputs from the user about a plant or animal to determine its species. The app utilizes the ZipcodeZoo online encyclopedia, which has a page for every known living species.
ZipcodeZoo has 6.1 million pages, including more than 1.2 million photographs, 52,000 videos, 223,000 sound clips and 3.9 million maps for 4.7 million species and infraspecies. This online encyclopedia uses the Catalogue of Life for its basic species list, Wikipedia and WIkispecies for its content, Flickr and the Wikimedia Commons for many of its photos, YouTube for videos, and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility for its maps. All its information available through a Creative Commons license.
