In May of 2014, Apple purchased Beats Music and Beats Electronics and subsequently began offering exclusive headphones and earbuds from the brand at its retail locations and online. Beats Electronics continues to sell earbuds, speakers and headphones through its own website, as well as at participating retailers.
Beats Electronics was founded by rapper and entrepreneur Dr. Dre, along with Interscope Records founder Jimmy Iovine, to manufacture high-end earphones and earbuds. Apple purchased the company, and its sister music divisions, for an estimated $3 billion in 2014 and began to incorporate the listening devices into its overall retail strategy. As of August 2015, Apple offers exclusive wireless Beats earbuds in colors corresponding to its exclusive line of Apple Watches. Similarly, it also offers other products in colors and tones that match its laptop lines.
While Apple continues to oversee the production of new lines of products under the Beats banner for sale in its own stores, the company also sells Beats products at many other retailers through the Beats website, BeatsByDre.com. Some retailers may also sell older models of certain Beats earbuds and accessories. Full lists of available Beats devices are located at BeatsByDre.com and the Beats page of Apple's website.
