The list of printers that are compatible with Apple devices includes the HP Officejet Pro X551DW, Brother MFC-J870DW, Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4533 and Canon ImageClass MF6160DW models. These printers use Apple’s AirPrint technology that lets users print photos and documents directly from different Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, as long as these devices are connected to the same wireless network as the printer.
The HP Officejet Pro X551DW model is a laser printer that features touch-screen controls and an option to print content from a USB drive. Of the four listed models, all support duplex printing, which lets them print on both sides of the paper at the same time. However, only Brother MFC-J870DW supports direct printing from cameras, although users have to connect them to the printer with a cable.
Users with Mac computers can connect these printers directly to the computer via a USB or Ethernet port. Once the printers and Apple devices are set up to share the same network, users can print content from different applications directly, without the use of additional software. In situations where a large number of networks are present, such as in corporate environments, these printers feature an option to configure the domain name system records so that users from different networks can access the same printer. As of 2015, most printers from brands such as Canon, Dell and HP, among others, feature AirPrint functionality.
