Anchor text is the visible portion of an HTML document that acts as a link to another resource. Clicking on this visible text loads the resource to which it is linked.
Links on a Web page consist of two parts: the anchor and the destination. The anchor points to the destination resource.
HTML is the underpinning of the World Wide Web, and anchors provide the means to move quickly from one site to another site. Anchor text is surrounded by mark-up (not usually visible to the casual user) that contains browser-understandable commands linking to the desired information.
The resources that anchor text leads to can be another portion of the same document, another HTML document, PDF files, images and other online resources.
