Amazon has 132 active distributions centers worldwide, as of 2014. In the United States and Canada, there are 66 fulfillment, return, redistribution and sorting centers. Most of these centers are located near airports. Items are shipped from the fulfillment center closest to the address destination.
Amazon started in 1994 in the garage of president, CEO and chairman, Jeff Bezos as an online bookstore. Now headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon has become a type of one-stop online shopping resource, carrying just about everything imaginable from books to perishable groceries. Sales for Amazon are projected to exceed 100 billion dollars in 2015.
