The Amazon Kindle is a dedicated mobile electronic device used for reading electronic books and periodicals sold by Amazon.com. The original Kindle was introduced in 2007, and as of 2014, there are several models of the e-reader.
Aside from the original Kindle, Amazon offers the Kindle Paperwhite, which includes a built-in light and the Kindle Voyage, which has an adaptive light sensor to prevent eye strain. Each of these devices can hold thousands of e-books. The Kindle Fire is a tablet computer that offers additional features such as email, web access, a camera and social media applications. Amazon also offers Kindle software that can be used via applications on computers and smartphones and a cloud reader that enables users to read Kindle versions of books from their web browsers.
