The advantages of computer networks are file sharing, resource sharing which decreases costs, user flexibility, and increased storage capacity due to the many computers present. The disadvantages include lack of independence by client users, security concerns, and threats by malware and viruses.Continue Reading
A computer network is an electronically interconnected set of computers that are able to communicate and share resources amongst each other. Various devices such as hubs, switches and routers are used to interconnect different computers either wired or wirelessly. To enable intercommunication, a set of rules (communication protocols) are implemented, and these govern the exchange of information within the network. This technology plays a vital role to individuals and organizations but also has downsides, as with other forms of technology.
Different networks can differ in designs and transmission media used to transmit their signals and while some may use copper wires, others may use fiber cables or wireless communication. However, these networks can be interconnected to form an even larger network and the large networks are also interconnected further. While this enables communication to more networks, it also introduces complexity in moving the data packets from the source to destination. The best known and largest network is the Internet.Learn more about Internet & Networking
