Football rankings for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association are available on the WIAA website as well as news outlets and websites dedicated to local Wisconsin sports reporting. The Wisconsin Sports Network reports on local Wisconsin sports and has pages dedicated specifically to state high school football.
The WIAA divides high school football teams among nine different school population-based divisions, including an eight-player category. The WIAA ranks teams based on their win-loss records while playing within their divisions. These rankings then contribute to a team's seeding in the state tournament if it is one of the top eight teams in its division. The WIAA puts forward a Contenders' Report that tracks the records of competitive teams in the state. At the end of the regular season, the WIAA publishes the state tournament bracket that includes the seeded teams according to their final division rankings for the year.
Third-party sports reporting news outlets and websites typically provide more creative ways of ranking teams, including insights from coaches and the perceived difficulty of each team. The Wisconsin Sports Network only publishes the top ten ranked teams per division. The Wisconsin Sports Network also bases its rankings on polls it conducts with the high school football coaches within a division. Player rankings are also available on the Wisconsin Sports Network website.
