"White Mamba" was the nickname given to former NBA player Brian Scalabrine during his tenure with the Chicago Bulls. Commentator Stacy King assigned the name in excitement as Scalabrine hit a running bank shot. The designation is a play off of star Kobe Bryant's nickname, "Black Mamba."
After leading USC to an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Scalabrine was selected by the New Jersey Nets with the 34th pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. Following four seasons with the Nets, he spent five with the Boston Celtics. His final two seasons were with the Bulls, where he was a fan favorite, despite limited playing time. Scalabrine was hired as a television analyst for the Celtics in August 2014.
