Popular week 9 NFL picks in 2014 included the Cincinnati Bengals over the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Seattle Seahawks over the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers over the St. Louis Rams. Cincinnati and Seattle both won, but San Francisco lost.
All the ESPN NFL Experts chose Cincinnati, Seattle and San Francisco to win. The majority of the fans playing NFL Pigskin Pick 'em on ESPN.com also chose those teams.
Cincinnati defeated Jacksonville by a score of 33 to 23. Jeremy Hill, Cincinnati's rookie running back, had two touchdowns and ran for 154 yards, his highest at that point. Jacksonville's rookie quarterback, Blake Bortles, threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns but also threw an interception in Cincinnati's end zone late in the fourth quarter.
Seattle had a 24 to 3 lead over Oakland, but a late rally led to a final score of 30 to 24. Seattle's running back, Marshawn Lynch, ran for 67 yards and two touchdowns to build the lead. However, Oakland scored a touchdown in the third quarter off a blocked Seattle punt. Derek Carr, Oakland's quarterback, threw two touchdowns to bring his team within six points, but Seattle recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.
St. Louis beat San Francisco 13 to 10. San Francisco's quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, threw for 237 yards and a touchdown. However, he fumbled the ball on the goal line with two seconds left, and St. Louis recovered to hold on to the victory.
