Among Kirk Herbstreit's best bowl picks in the 2014-15 season were Georgia Tech to win the Orange Bowl, Michigan State to claim the Cotton Bowl and Wisconsin to win the Outback Bowl. He made 17 bowl picks and was correct in eight of them.
Georgia Tech beat Mississippi State 49-34 in the Orange Bowl, Michigan State slipped by Baylor 42-41 in the Cotton Bowl, and Wisconsin edged Auburn 34-31 in overtime in the Outback Bowl.
He also correctly picked Missouri to win the Citrus Bowl, Arkansas to take the Texas Bowl, Arizona State to sweep the Sun Bowl, Penn State to win the Pinstripe Bowl and USC to claim the Holiday Bowl. Missouri handled Missouri 33-17, Arkansas blew out Texas 31-7, ASU outscored Duke 35-31, Penn State nipped Boston College 31-30 in overtime and USC beat Nebraska 45-42.
Before the season, he picked Florida State, UCLA, Michigan State and Alabama to reach the first College Football Playoff. He was correct with Florida State and Alabama, although neither team advanced to the championship game, in which Ohio State blew out Oregon 42-20.
In 2013-14, Herbstreit correctly predicted victories by Oregon over Texas in the Alamo Bowl, Louisville vs. Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl, Notre Dame against Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl, Clemson over Ohio State in the Orange Bowl and Nebraska vs. Georgia in the Gator Bowl.
