Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Shaquile O'Neal were three players listed on the 1996 50 Greatest Players in National Basketball Association History list that were still playing at the time the list was released. Retired players included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain, amongst others.
Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen spent the majority of their careers playing together as members of the Chicago Bulls. During their time on the Bulls, they won six NBA championships and also won gold medals as members of the United States Olympic team. Shaquille O'Neal was a member of the Orlando Magic at the time of the list's release, but he eventually won three championships with the Los Angeles Lakers and one more as a member of the Miami Heat.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spent his playing career as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks and then as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. He won one championship as a member of the Bucks and five with the Lakers. He won the NBA Most Valuable Player award six times and won the NBA Finals MVP twice. Wilt Chamberlain spent his NBA career as a member of the Philadelphia Warriors, San Francisco Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers. He won two NBA championships and was named the NBA MVP four times.
