Tiger Woods is most famous for his success as a professional golfer. He was ranked first in the world for two different stretches of 264 weeks (from 1999 to 2004) and 281 weeks (from 2005 to 2010), and, as of 2014, is regarded as one of the best players ever.
Woods is also known for helping break convention as an African-American golfer in a sport whose players are mostly Caucasian, as of 2014. Woods received notoriety in the mainstream media and gossip magazines in late 2009, when information surfaced about his extramarital affairs. Woods admitted to the infidelity and apologized in a press conference. He and his wife were eventually divorced.
