Florida and Michigan were the NCAA's top two softball teams in 2015, with Florida defeating Michigan in the three-game championship series. The Gators won the third and deciding game 4-1, to finish with a 60-7 record and their second straight NCAA championship. The Wolverines finished their season 60-8.
The final eight teams remaining in the 64-team NCAA Division I Softball Tournament advanced to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee, and UCLA were the other teams to make the Women's College World Series. Florida defeated Auburn and Michigan defeated LSU in the semifinals. Eleven of the 16 teams in the Southeastern Conference made the NCAA tournament, making the SEC the nation's strongest conference.
