Boise State was the overall champion of the 2014 Mountain West football season, boasting a 7-1 in conference play and 28-14 victory over Fresno State in the conference championship game. Colorado State and Utah tied for second best in league play at 6-2.
The Boise State Broncos' success was built around an offensive attack that totalled a league-best 350 points in league play en route to a 12-2 overall record and 38-30 Fiesta Bowl win versus Arizona. While Colorado State and Utah did not square off in the regular season, the Utes defeated the Rams convincingly in the postseason with a 45-10 victory in the Las Vegas Bowl.
The top three teams all competed in the Mountain Division of the 12-team conference. Fresno State was the regular season champion of the West Division, finishing 5-3 in league play, but just 6-8 overall.
