Full Answer

Fall sports sanctioned by the KHSAA are football, field hockey, cross country, volleyball, golf and soccer. Winter sports are wrestling, swimming and diving, and girls and boys basketball. Spring sports are softball, baseball, tennis and track and field. Sports activities sanctioned by the association are archery, competitive cheer, bass fishing and bowling. Both private and public schools are members of the KHSAA.

The KHSAA was formed in 1917, and the Kentucky Department of Education designated the association with overseeing high school athletics across the state of Kentucky. KHSAA awards 40 state championships in 16 sports. The association also keeps track of schedules, scores, past champions, stats and records for schools that submit official stat reports to the KHSAA. The KHSAA website additionally keeps viewable records of some sports no longer sponsored by the association, such as fencing, gymnastics and slow pitch softball.
