As of November 2014, the tallest active player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is Hasheem Thabeet, a 7-foot-3-inch center from Tanzania who plays for the Detroit Pistons. Prior to his trade to Detroit on Sept. 25, 2014, he played for Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, Portland, Houston and Memphis.
Thabeet is not the tallest NBA player ever, however. Gheorghe Mureșan of Romania, who played for Washington and New Jersey in the late 90s, was 7 feet 7 inches tall. Manute Bol of Sudan, also listed as 7 foot 7 inches tall, played for four different teams in the late 80s and early 90s. It is generally accepted that Mureșan was slightly taller than Bol.
