The two tallest players to ever play in the National Basketball Association were Gheorghe Muresan and Manute Bol, who were both officially listed at 7 feet 7 inches tall. However, according to some, the tallest basketball player ever was Suleiman Ali Nashnush, who was just over 8 feet tall.
Nashnush is one of less than 20 people in history to have grown to over 8 feet, although his official height was only listed at 7 feet 10 inches when he played for the Libyan national basketball team. Another 7-foot-10-inch player was Ukrainian Alexander Sizonenko, who played professionally for several teams in Russia and also for the Soviet national team. Some people have also argued that a Chinese player, Mingming Sun, is the tallest basketball player ever, although his official measurement is only 7 feet 9 inches. Following Sun is North Korea's Ri Myung Hun, who was 7 feet 8 1/2 inches tall.
As far as the tallest players in the NBA are concerned, after Muresan and Bol come Yao Ming and Shawn Bradley, who both measured in at 7 feet 6 inches during their playing careers. However, even Muresan and Bol only come in as the ninth- and 10th-tallest people in the world to ever play basketball.
