Several tourist websites, including the National Park Service, HikingtheCarolinas.com and FlyFishinSmokyMountains.com contain advice and information on hiking and fishing in the Cataloochee Valley. The seven-mile Boogerman Trail is popular with hikers, and the Cataloochie Creek, along with its tributaries, are all good places to fish for wild trout.
The Boogerman Trail is named after Robert "Boogerman" Palmer, a former landowner who did not allow tree logging on his land. The trail, which is hiking only, runs past his homestead's remains and through woodland full of mature trees. The Cataloochie Creek offers fly-fishers a combination of pools, riffles and runs. Palmer Creek, Pretty Hollow Creek and Lost Bottoms Creek are among several tributaries that have brown, rainbow and brook trout.
