It is safe to swim in Lake Oroville but only at two designated locations: North Forebay and Loafer Creek Area. Lake Oroville has designated areas for different activities that include swimming, non-motorized boats, kayaking and fishing.
Lake Oroville is located about 75 miles north of Sacramento, California, and is part of the larger State Recreation Area that provides many recreational activities, such as hiking, boating, swimming and camping. The Department of Water Resources in California has set aside two swimming beaches for swimmers; however, there are no lifeguards, so it is advisable to swim only in the company of others. Children should also not swim alone.
