The TSN Hockey Challenge is an online competition that Canadian sports service TSN runs during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The playoffs generally begin in the middle of April and last until the middle of June. They consist of 16 teams competing in best-of-seven rounds until one team wins the Cup.
Prior to the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, you must select a group of twelve hockey players that make up your "team." But just like in the real NHL, there is a salary cap. For this game, the salary cap is $100. Each player is assigned a monetary value. The combined value of the twelve players that you select must be less than or equal to $100.
Since half of the teams are eliminated at the end of each round, you are allowed to make changes to your roster following the first and second rounds. Each team must be composed of two goaltenders, four defensemen, and six forwards, either wings or centers.
Your score is based on the performance of the players. Points are calculated in accordance with the players' real life statistics, such as goals, assists, hits, blocked shots, saves and wins, with the latter two being goalies' statistical categories. At the end of the playoff, whoever has the most points will win a new Kia, as of 2015.
