The average number of black players in the National Football League is approximately 70 percent. There are representations of almost every race in the NFL, but African-American's make up the largest percentage.
Black players are most commonly found in the positions of wide receiver, running back, fullback, defensive end, and linebacker. While there are a high number of black players in the sport, there are relatively few black coaches. Approximately six percent of the coaches in the NFL are black. These numbers can change at any time with players being traded, released, placed on injured reserve or retiring.
