UFC fights that took place in Las Vegas include Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II, and Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman II. Because the UFC 's home is the MGM Grand Garden Arena, many events take place in Las Vegas, but these three stand out.
The Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir fight saw Lesnar walk away with the heavyweight title belt at the end of the night. Lesnar was able to claim the victory after ground-and-pounding Mir for a large part of the first round and doing much of the same in the second round until the referee had to stop the fight. The official decision was that Lesnar defeated Mir via a technical knockout in the second round. Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II cemented Anderson Silva as the best middleweight fighter in the world, and arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport's history. In the first match, Sonnen nearly beat the middleweight title holder, until Silva was able to submit Sonnen late in the fifth round via a Triangle choke. Their second meeting ended quicker than anticipated, when Silva won in second round by technical knockout. In the most recent of the three fights, Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman II, Weidman kept the middleweight title belt in a fight that ended prematurely after he checked one of Silva's kicks and Silva broke his leg.
