Tebow took advantage of a Florida ruling that enabled homeschooled students to play for their local high school's athletic teams. Tebow went on to lead Nease High School to a state title while garnering Florida's "Mr. Football" and Parade All-American honors.
Tebow accepted a scholarship to play for coach Urban Meyer at the University of Florida, where his parents first met as students. While playing for the Gators from 2006 to 2009, Tebow helped the school to two National Titles and won college football's Heisman Trophy in 2007.
The Denver Broncos selected Tebow with the 25th overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. Though he played sparingly during his rookie season, Tebow managed to become the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for a touchdown in each of his first three career starts.
After a 1 and 4 start, the Broncos designated Tebow their starter, and the team rebounded for an 8 and 8 finish, including six straight victories with Tebow at the helm and a first-round playoff victory.
Despite his success as quarterback, Tebow was traded to the New York Jets upon the signing of Peyton Manning. Following a brief stint in New York, he was released by the New England Patriots in 2013 and remains a free agent as of 2014. Though he began working as a broadcaster in December 2013, the outspoken Christian remains intent on quarterbacking an NFL team.Learn more about Athletes
