Odin Lloyd was a semi-professional football player for the Boston Bandits. He was found murdered on June 18, 2013. As of November 2014, Aaron Hernandez, former tight end for the New England Patriots, stands accused of his murder.
Odin Lloyd was born in the Virgin Islands and moved to Dorchester, Mass. with his family at a young age. He began playing for the Boston Bandits in 2007. He met Aaron Hernandez through his girlfriend, who was the sister of Hernandez's fiancé. Hernandez liked to talk football with him, invite him to parties and give him tickets to Patriots games. Further details of the relationship between the two are unclear, but childhood friends of Lloyd claim he never had any involvement with gangs or crime.
Hernandez was arrested and charged with Lloyd's murder by police along with two other men, based on security footage showing the four men getting into an SUV and driving to the area where Lloyd was killed. Lloyd and Hernandez had also been in contact by text message shortly before the murder. A search of Hernandez's home by police revealed that he had intentionally destroyed his own video security system as well as a cellular phone. One of the alleged accomplices also revealed the existence of a secret apartment rented by Hernandez that contained ammunition and clothing that the police may use as evidence against him.
