Shaquille O'Neal was born at 7 pounds 6 ounces. He was born in Newark, N.J. on March 6, 1972. His first name means "little one" in Arabic and his middle name, Rashaun, means "warrior."
During his early teens, O'Neal lived in a military base with his stepfather in Germany. He went on to play collegiate basketball at Louisiana State University. In 1992, O'Neal became the first overall pick of the 1992 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic. Once he entered the NBA, he became a budding superstar. O'Neil went on to win Rookie of the Year in 1993 and led the Magic to the NBA Finals in 1995. When he left Orlando for the Los Angeles Lakers, he solidified his status as a superstar. He ended up winning three consecutive NBA Championships (2000, 2001 and 2002) and became the NBA Most Valuable Player in 2000. O'Neal won his fourth championship with the Miami Heat in 2006.
