The Pittsburgh Penguins have won five Stanley Cup titles. The Penguins' first championship occurred in the 1990-1991 season when they beat the Minnesota North Stars. They won their second championship against the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1991-1992 season, and their third against the Detroit Red Wings in 2008-2009. In the 2015-2016 season they beat the San Jose Sharks to win the Cup, and in the 2016-2017 season they beat out the Nashville Predators to win the Stanley Cup.
During the Penguins' 1990-1991 championship season, both Mark Recchi and Kevin Stevens led the team in scoring with 40 goals apiece. The next year, Kevin Stevens led the team to another championship with 54 goals. Evgeni Malkin led the team to its championship during the 2008-2009 season with 47 goals. Their Stanley Cup wins in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons made them the first team since the 1997-1998 Detroit Red Wings to successfully defend their title.
Mario Lemieux is the all-time record holder for goals scored throughout his career for the Penguins, with 690 goals. He also leads the team in assists (1,033) and total points (1,723). Lemieux now serves as the team's co-owner and chairman.
