The number of mandatory rounds is established by the World Boxing Federation based on the type of contest; world title and intercontinental title bouts consist of 12 rounds while international and regional title bouts are made up of 10 rounds. There are two fewer rounds in female boxing matches.
Under WBF regulations and rules, there are three three-minute rounds in male contests with a one-minute break in between rounds. For female bouts, there are two two-minute rounds with a one-minute break between each round. Notably, international title bouts in the men's division can be upgraded to 12 rounds upon special request.
