A total of 42 players have been drafted into the NBA straight out of high school from 1962 to 2005. Beginning with the 2006 Draft, the NBA adopted a rule prohibiting players from entering the draft until one calendar year after their high school graduation.
Of the 42 players selected, just two, Ousmane Cisse and Ricky Sanchez, failed to appear in a regular season NBA game. Three high school draftees, Kwame Brown, LeBron James and Dwight Howard, were selected with the first overall pick in their respective years. Undrafted players with notable NBA careers that never appeared in a college game include Hall-of-Famer Moses Malone, Shawn Kemp and Stephen Jackson.
