How Many Miles Long Was the Ancient Olympics Track?

The Olympia track measured 200 meters, according to the official website of the Olympic Movement. The 200-meter stade race event took place on this track, as competitors would race on foot from one end to the other.

The ancient Olympic Games can be traced back to 776 B.C. and were originally a one-day event. The ancient Games included running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration wrestling and equestrian events. Running contests included the stade race, the diaulos and the dolichos. The diaulos was a foot race measuring 400 meters, or two stades. The dolichos ranged between 7 and 24 stades.
