The ESPY for Best Male Action Sports Athlete is a fan-chosen award given to an athlete who partakes in an extreme sport. Some of the sports in which nominees compete include surfing, skateboarding, motorcross, snowmobiling and freestyle skiing.
As of 2015, fans get to vote on the winner of the award at ESPN.go.com. Snowboarder Shaun White has a total of six Best Male Action Sports Athlete awards, winning five of them consecutively from 2008 through 2012. Some other winners of the award include Ryan Nyquist and Dave Mirra for freestyle BMX, Travis Pastrana for motocross and Nyjah Huston for skateboarding. ESPN also gives out a Best Female Action Sports Athlete ESPY.
