Located in northern Kentucky, Turfway Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack that holds live races in December and from January through April. In addition to live horse racing, Turfway Park provides year-round live simulcast wagering from a multitude of North American tracks.
Every year, Turfway Park offers a Winter/Spring and Holiday stakes meet. Each meet or season is comprised of several stakes races. The Holiday meet runs during December, and the Winter/Spring meet is typically held from the beginning of January through late March or early April.
Turfway's 2015 live racing schedule ran from December 6, 2014, to March 21, 2015. The schedule included nine events ranging in purse size from $60,000 to $550,000.
The most prominent live event held at Turfway is the Horseshoe Casino Spiral Stakes, which features an assortment of three-year-old Thoroughbreds and is run at a distance of 1 1/8 miles. The event serves as a warm-up for the renowned Kentucky Derby and boasted a purse of $550,000 in 2015. The Horseshoe Casino Spiral Stakes is always the last live event of the season at Turfway Park.
Turfway Park was the first racetrack in North America to install and use the all-weather Polytrack racing surface. With this surface, Turfway Park is consistently listed as a "fast" track regardless of weather conditions.
