The Kavik River Camp is located in Alaska, a few miles from Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge but 500 miles from Fairbanks, the nearest large city. The camp has been in operation since 1960 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2010. It is open to the public year-round and offers hunting, fishing, hiking and exploring opportunities to visitors.
Kavik River Camp is not accessible via any road; the closest road to the camp is 80 miles to its west. However, it does offer a 1.25-mile runway for those who choose to fly into the camp. The camp offers jet fuel for sale on site. The camp's website notes that the runway is dry and clear from the months of May through September, but advises visitors to call ahead during other months to check runway conditions.
