Numerous traps are marketed as humane for the capture of feral pigs. Types of human traps include panel and box traps, which are easily transportable, and silo traps, which are superior in size and strength but less portable.
There are several gate options for all three trap types, designed with speed, durability and noise reduction in mind. The traps should be placed in a shaded area so that the pigs don't get too hot, and water should be provided. Traps should be located where the chance of domestic livestock entrapment is minimized, and they should be checked at least once a day.
Other factors to consider include the number of feral pigs to be caught and their ultimate disposal after trapping. Because feral pigs travel in herds, electrified fencing may be more effective for protection of a specific area.
