Teams in the NHL include the Chicago Blackhawks, the Montreal Canadiens, the New York Islanders, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings. The NHL has 30 member teams, with 23 in the United States and seven in Canada.
In 2013 the Hockey Daily ranked the Chicago Blackhawks as the most popular team in the league, based on a ranking method that included Google search results, social media followers, team net worth and game attendance. Chicago had the highest attendance of any team, in excess of 100 percent of capacity, due to the sale of standing-room-only tickets. Chicago ranked in the top five in all other criteria.
As of 2015 the Montreal Canadiens have won the most championships of any team in the league with 25. The Canadiens also hold the record for the most consecutive championships with five. The next most successful team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, who hold 13 championship titles.
The Detroit Red Wings have won the most championships of any American team with 11. The New York Islanders hold the record for the longest championship streak of an American team with four.
