According to NFL.com, a football crossbar should be 10 feet above the ground when measured from the top face to the field of play. The goal posts are situated 18 feet 6 inches apart, while the vertical posts must extend at least 30 feet above the crossbar.
The goal posts on a football field should be painted yellow or gold in color. A ribbon with the length of 4 x 42 inches is attached to the top of each post. A successful kick is made between the two vertical posts but must pass over the crossbar to score points for the team of the kicker.
