There are no reports that anything out of the ordinary took place at cricketer Shahid Afridi's wedding. He married Nadia Afridi, who is also his maternal cousin, in June of 2000 in Khyber Agency, a region in Pakistan. The wedding was a large event with many famous guests. Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad and Abdul Razzaq attended, along with many other international cricket players.
Shortly after the wedding, Afridi was implicated in a sex scandal. Before leaving for a tournament in Singapore in 2000, Afridi, along with Atiq-uz-Zaman and Hasan Raza, were caught with a group of young ladies in a hotel room in Karachi. The cricketers claimed that the young women had come to collect autographs.
Afridi said that it would be difficult to turn his career around after this scandal and that his father and brothers had been very critical of his actions. He also claimed that the event should not suggest that he was unhappy in his new marriage to Nadia Shahid, saying that if he was unhappy with her, he would not have married her. Afridi rose to fame in 2001 as a cricketer after signing a contract to represent Leicestershire. Since 2011, he has gone in and out of retirement.
