Outdoor teen summer camps include Adventure Treks, Outward Bound and Wilderness Adventures. Adventure Treks and Wilderness Adventures are smaller camps, while Outward Bound is a large national organization. All three offer camps in various parts of the country.
Adventure Treks is a small summer adventure camp that focuses on using the outdoors to bring out the best in teenagers. It has adventure camps that last two, three or four weeks for teens ages 12 to 18. Teens are able to raft, climb, hike and bike in California, North Carolina, Alaska and Oregon, among other places.
Outward Bound offers national programs focused on enhancing leadership skills and achievement for teens. Camps through this organization include Blue Ridge Mountains backpacking and climbing, Joshua backpacking, Boundary Waters dog sledding and cross-country skiing, and Ten Thousand Islands sea kayaking. Courses range in length of time from several days to several weeks.
Wilderness Adventures focuses on creating adventures to increase teens' self confidence and self reliance. It is a small, family-owned operation that offers trips in Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, British Columbia and Alaska, among other places. While national trips have been offered for over 40 years, the organization has more recently started offering international trips to places such as Kilimanjaro, Costa Rica and Spain.
