JaMarcus Russell was one of the most successful LSU quarterbacks in the school's history. He played for the school from 2004 to 2006 and accumulated 6,625 passing yards and 52 touchdowns. In 2006, Russell passed for 3,129 yards and 28 touchdowns, which led him to be drafted number one overall by the Oakland Raiders the following spring. However, he only completed three years of his six-year NFL contract before being cut by the team.

Bert Jones was LSU's first First-Team All-American for his performance in his senior season in 1972. Jones was also the Southeast Conference Player of the Year and finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting that season. Although he only played one full season and two games of his junior year, his 3,390 yards passing and 28 touchdowns were both school records at the time. He was drafted by the Baltimore Colts and had a successful NFL career during which he won three conference titles and was selected as the league's most valuable player in 1976.

Y.A. Tittle played with the team in the late 1940s and produced some of the best statistics for an LSU quarterback at the time. After winning the Cotton Bowl for the school in 1947, he went on to spend 17 years in the NFL and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
