How Far Can a Sniper Rifle Shoot From?

The distance a rifle bullet can travel is dependent on its size and the amount of gunpowder propelling it, but the world record for a confirmed sniper kill is 2,707 yards. The shot was made by British Corporal of Horse Craig Harrison in November 2009 in Afghanistan.

In 2012, the Australian paper Daily Telegraph printed a story claiming that an Australian soldier made a shot in Afghanistan that measured 3,079 yards, but this could not be verified as of 2014. In total, there have been nine confirmed sniper kills over distances greater than 2,000 yards in the history of modern warfare.
