As of 2015, some of the most famous female wrestling matches are Lita vs. Trish Stratus and Sasha Banks vs. Bayley. In 2006, WWE’s “Unforgiven” event featured Lita vs. Trish Stratus for the WWE Women’s Championship. In 2015, the Sasha Banks vs. Bayley match was alongside NXT’s “TakeOver: Brooklyn” as the main events of the NXT Women’s Championship.
The Lita vs. Trish Stratus match took place in Stratus’s hometown of Toronto. The match concluded with Stratus applying a sharpshooter submission hold on Lita to become victorious. It was Stratus’s farewell wrestling match in WWE. The match is considered a classic and is ranked number one on the Bleacher Report “Seven Best Women’s Matches in History.” Another memorable Stratus vs. Lita match took place on WWE’s “Monday Night Raw” as the main event. However, that match ended with Lita becoming victorious and winning the WWE Women’s Championship in 2004.
WWE.com referred to the Sasha Banks vs. Bayley match from NXT’s “TakeOver: Brooklyn” as being show-stealing and groundbreaking. The match featured both wrestlers taking incredible risks to gain the victory. However, the match ended with Bayley applying her “Bayley-to-Belly” suplex to become victorious. After the match, Banks returned to the ring to congratulate Bayley on her win along with other female wrestlers.
