National Football League player Peyton Manning attended the University of Tennessee, which he attended from 1994 until 1998. Manning was a 3-year starter for the Volunteers, where he quarterbacked teams that won 39 games and lost six. He passed for a school-record 11,201 yards and 89 yards during his time at Tennessee.
Manning led the Volunteers to victories in the Gator Bowl and twice in the Citrus Bowl. He earned a number of accolades during his college career, including finishing sixth in the Heisman Trophy balloting during his freshman year and finishing second during his senior year. During his final season, he won the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Award, and was a consensus All-American. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the first overall choice in the 1998 NFL Draft.
