Figure skater Ekaterina Gordeeva did not divorce her first husband. Her skater partner and husband, Sergei Grinkov, died of a sudden heart attack in 1995.
Ekaterina Gordeeva is a Russian figure skater. She and partner Sergei Grinkov won two Olympic gold medals and four world championships. They began skating together in 1982. Gordeeva and Grinkov began their relationship as partners and then became friends and finally married in 1991, shortly after turning pro in their skating careers. Their daughter Daria was born in 1992. On Nov. 20, 1995, while practicing, Grinkov suffered a heart attack on the ice and later died. He was 28 years old. Ekaterina was only 24 years old at the time.
