Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith became the National Football League's all-time leading rusher in a game against the Seattle Seahawks on Oct. 27, 2002. He broke the record previously held by Walter Payton.

Smith surpassed Payton's mark with an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter of the game. Later in the drive, Smith hit another milestone, scoring his 150th career rushing touchdown on a 1-yard run. Smith ran for 109 yards that day against the Seahawks, though Seattle won the game 17 to 14. At that point in his career, Smith had run for 16,743 yards, though he would finish his career with 18,355 rushing yards.
