NFL quarterback Drew Brees attended Purdue University. Brees played for the Boilermakers from 1997 to 2000, earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors during his sophomore and senior seasons. He also finished among the top four in Heisman Trophy voting in 1999 and 2000.
Brees was the 32nd player selected overall in the 2001 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers. After five seasons in San Diego, Brees signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2006. In 2009, Brees led the Saints to their first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history, in which they defeated the New York Giants 31 to 17.
