Born in 1944, Michaels was an avid sports fan growing up and played baseball in high school. His first job was as public relations rep for the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1964, he became their color commentator.
His career has covered sports from baseball and football to the Olympics, and he is well known for his exuberance during the call of the "Miracle on Ice," the 1980 gold medal Olympic hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union. He spent nearly three decades as a voice on ABC's "Monday Night Football."
