Although soccer was loosely played by the Chinese during the Han dynasty, it only became the modern sport that we know today through the efforts of the British.
Soccer has a global appeal, so many countries claim to have invented the sport. However, while evidence shows that the Chinese, Romans, and Greeks all played a version of the game, the modern sport of soccer was invented by the British. In 1815 a list of rules for the sport was drawn up. The Football Association was formed in 1863, which most fans and athletes recognize as the birth of the modern game.
