Ranking the greatest football player is often debated amongst experts, sports writers and fans, but the NFL ranks Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Lawrence Taylor, Joe Montana and Walter Payton as some of the best players of all time. There are too many variable to choose one as the "best" player.
Generally, the all-time greats are rated by the position that they played in regard to their peers. In specific positions, professionals usually choose the same players.
