The University of Kentucky baseball team plays in the Southeastern Conference, most commonly known as the SEC. The conference currently consists of 14 different teams, covering 11 different Southeastern states. The conference competes in division I NCAA athletic competitions and division I-A in football.
The Southeastern Conference began in 1932 and at the time consisted of only 10 original members. Those original members are Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Auburn, Louisiana State, Mississippi and Mississippi State. Since then, the conference has added four new members, including Arkansas and South Carolina in 1991, and most recently Missouri and Texas A&M in 2012.
