As of 2015, some colleges with softball teams include the University of California, Los Angeles; the University of Florida, Gainsville; Northwestern University; Baylor University; and the University of Tulsa. Boston University, the University of Notre Dame and Depaul University also have softball teams.
The University of California, Los Angeles, or UCLA, has a Division 1 softball team. The team plays at the Easton Stadium, which is located on the northern end of UCLA's campus. The stadium first opened its doors in 1994. Aside from being the softball team's home field, it is also the site of various intercollegiate, national and international events. In 1996, the stadium was used as a training site for the Summer Olympics.
The University of Florida's softball team, the Gators, also play in the Division 1 league. As of 2015, the University of Florida is the top-ranked college in the state, and it also boasts a top-ranked softball team. In 2014, the Gators won the National Championship, and in 2015, USA Today ranked it as one of the top 10 softball teams in the country. The Gators play at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium, which was built in 1996 and has a capacity of 1,200 spectators. The first Florida softball game was played on the field on Feb. 8, 1977.
